Bengals Offseason Preview 128804917_extra_large

This is a preview of the Bengals offseason.
QB- What a difference a year makes. A year ago Carson Palmer demanded a trade and the Bengals looked like they were going to be the worst team in the NFL. Andy Dalton surprised everyone and led the Bengals in the playoffs. Dalton can only get better.
RB- Even though Bengals made the playoffs the running game wasn't as effective as it was in 2009. What Cedric Benson has shown us is he is a solid running back, but he is not a feature back. Cedric Benson is a free agent and it looks like he won't be back. They will probably look early in the draft for a running back.
WR- This group is one of the better young groups in the NFL. They are led by A.J. Green who is coming off a monster rookie year, but they lack a true number two receiver. Jerome Simpson is a free agent and he is expected to be back. Look for them in the mid to early rounds to look for a receiver.
TE- They have a future star at tight end in Jermaine Gresham. However he is injury prone and they need to find a backup they can fill in if Jermaine gets hurt. In the mid rounds expect the Bengals to look to find a TE.
OL- This is a solid o-line, but nothing special. Since trying to rebuild it in 2007 at times this unit has been a disaster. Although they have a star in Andrew Whitworth. With Kyle Cook, Anthony Collins, and Bobby Williams a free agent they have to make key decisions. Cook is very likely to come back the other two is 50/50. Look for them to add depth in the draft.
DL- This is one of the most talented d-lines in the NFL led by Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins. They have multiple have plenty of players that can play specifically on run downs and passing downs. They will probably look to add depth.
LB- This is solid, but not great unit. They have a bunch of Young linebackers who play as collective group. Manny Lawson is a free agent but with Keith Rivers coming back from injury he should be expandable. Look for them to just add depth.
DB- This was a unit that had it shares of ups and downs. They lost Johnathan Joseph in free agency and they lost Leon Hall half way into the year to an Achilles injury. Although Nate Clements surprised a lot of people and had a bounce back year. As for free agents Gibril Wilson, Reggie Nelson, and Kelly Jennings are free agents. The only one that may be back is Reggie Nelson the rest were depth. They will probably look for a safety early in the draft to help their secondary.

Carlos Dunlap does not lead our DL, though I'd like him to get more opportunities. Also, LB is fine, Howard and Lawson were good for us this season. Hopefully Rivers can be healthy for 2012.
