Closer for Cy Young Empty Closer for Cy Young

They were talking about this during the Braves vs. Mets game. Should a closer win the Cy Young. I mean, look at these two guys' numbers:

Craig Kimbrel: 1.26 ERA, 31/33 saves, 15.7 K/9 , 0.65 WHIP
Aroldis Chapman: 1.26 ERA, 28/32 saves, 16.7 K/9, 0.68 WHIP
Fernando Rodney: 0.83 ERA, 36/37 saves, 8.55 K/9, 0.76 WHIP

I mean, those are some scary numbers. So should a closer win Cy Young over a starter?

I don't know. I'm like 49/51 on this, leaning towards "No."

I mean, they have a hard job. But they can't really do their job if the starter doesn't do his job.

I mean I could see it happening, but I don't think it will. Hell Valverde went like 42/42 for saves last year and didn't get it. I just don't see it happening unless there is no starter worth giving it to.
