The NFL is throwing a flag on use of the N-word.

In a groundbreaking move, the league is expected to agree to start penalizing players 15 yards for uttering the racial slur on the field, according to the group that monitors diversity in the league.

John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, said the rule will likely be adopted by the NFL competition committee at March’s owners meetings.

“I will be totally shocked if the competition committee does not uphold us on what we’re trying to do,” Wooten said, according to CBSSports.com. “We want this word to be policed from the parking lot to the equipment room to the locker room.

“Secretaries, PR people, whoever, we want it eliminated completely and want it policed everywhere.”

Odd we are gonna ban the "N word" but being racist against Native Americans is ok? Plastering REDSKINS is ok? This country is fucked.

When black people are calling each other niggas on the field its definitely not racist. You can't hate your own race can you? This shit probally started with the Riley Cooper deal and seriously got infested with the Martin/Incognito situation. Makes me wonder how often its actually used on the field. Knee jerk reaction if you ask me.

The Redskins name tho is interesting. Basically back in the 16 and 1700's the term was used(mainly by native Americans) to differentate between the races basically using the terms "redskins and whiteskins". It was actually an honorable word at one time. Probally around the times settlers started heading west the redskin name actually started to become a derogatory word. Mainly sayings like filthy redskins or crazy injuns(another derogatory word imo) came into being. The Redskins are mainly saying they're honoring the honorable word especially with them depicting an Eastern Indian on their helmet. Tough to judge but if there's enough opposition and they are offending people perhaps they should consider a name change. It's just hard sometimes to change the woven fabric thats entrenched in our minds especially if you're a fan of the Redskins. Some native Americans are actually proud of the name it seems to be more of a vocal minority thats fighting this according to a few polls. Still interesting tho cuz it's considered racist. How would white people like the name Palefaces or how bout Fighting Whitey.

You'd be surprised. Im a Pop Warner coach and the kids use it on the field around 10 yrs old. It doesn't happen on my team. The second I hear it used, the very first time, I explain how insulting that word is to me and many others and how deep some words go in hurting people. I tell my players, rise above. Sure when we play the city teams I still get kids coming to the sideline whispering what was said out on the field to me and I tell them they are automatically better people and players than those using those words because we have standards and ethics (try explaining what ethics and morals are to 9-11 yr olds). I explain to the kids that the N word was used to describe Natives (who where shipped to the west indies as slaves long before the first African Slaves stepped foot on north America) for many many years and then black slaves as less than human and not deserving of any humanity or respect.

As for Redskins being being a racist word, to the tribes I have the most contact with (North East tribes) Redskin is a racist term. So is Injun. Now Ive traveled to different parts of the country meeting with different tribes across the mid west and Mississippi valley and have heard terms like Cherry Nigger,  Apples (red on the outside, white on the inside), Buffalo Jockey, being called Chief is very insulting to the entire tribe if that person is not the actual Chief, Prairie Nigger, Tomahonky (whites with native blood), Timber Nigger, ect...

Pretty heavy stuff. Seems like native Americans got some pretty good ones for white people and no I wouldn't want a team named that. Lol. You guys are mean. It does put the name in better perspective tho and as I've said before if its offensive to people that that name refers to(even if its a minority amount) then a name change should happen. It's basically just the history of the football team that makes it hard to change but sometimes bigger things are whats more important.
