Team Needs Empty Team Needs

Post  MaddMatter April 10th 2011, 8:25 pm

What are your teams needs going into the draft?

Assume Free Agency will happen after the draft.

Detroit Lions:

Corner Back: Probably our #1 need, Chris Houston is not a #1, Alphonso Smith made some key plays, but also got destroyed by Tom Brady, he's young but I think with that D-line he could be our number 1 if he HAD to be. I like him more at #2 or Nickle. If Amukamara is there at 13 you take him no questions asked. If not, probably D-line for depth, then try for a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Either way we need a CB.

2 LineBackers: We have Deandre Levy who was GREAT for us the last 4 weeks when he started getting healthy (missed most if not all of camp with a groin injury.) I think we can probably pick up Stephen Tullock in free agency and draft a Martez Wilson or Bruce Carter in the 2nd round. Immediate improvement.

O-line: To be fair the Lions O-line isn't horrible in pass protection. (Tied for 6th in 2010 in Sacks allowed), can the run game improve? Yes, but with a healthy Jahvid Best and a decent number 2 in Maurice Morris I think we will be better. That being said, Jeff Backus isn't getting any younger and Gosder Cherilus has bad knee problems and might not be in the league too much longer because of it. Rob Sims was a GREAT addition last year, Dom is old but is a great line-caller . Stephen Peterman was hurt all year, so I can't knock him too much, but let's say it reallllly showed. I'm not against getting and O-lineman in the draft, BUT I would NOT take one in the first 2 rounds. I think history has shown you don't need 1st round lineman to win a Super Bowl.

RB/WR: Both have good starters, but depth issues. At RB we need a Big Bulldozer of a RB and 95% of the time you should NEVER pick up a RB in free agency, (just my opinion). So I think we can draft a big bulldozer #2 RB in the mid to later rounds of the draft to complement Jahvid BEAST! At WR we need a slot guy, not a guy that will put up huge numbers, just one that can catch the damn ball. Bryant Johnson has hands made of rock and Derrick Williams hasn't performed well enough to stay on the field. A slot WR can open things up more for Megatron and Brandon Pettigreeeewwwwwwwwwww!

Eagles

1. Cornerback- I had faith that Dimitri Patterson could return to his stellar play from his first 2 games. But that never happened, in fact he absolutely sucked. Asante Samuel is a great playmaker but we need another corner.

2. O-line- Right tackle or right guard, get anyone. I dont even care if they have a heartbeat but anything is better than who we have right now.

3. D-line- We need our DT to get up field Antonio Dixon is great. But we need more pressure on the quaterback.

4. Linebacker- Need to get a playmaker because Ernie Sims was horrible.

Did he get any sacks/ Fumbles/ INT's? I think he only had 1 sack and 1 INT with us. All he did was tackle and he didn't take great angles. Great guy though, I've met him a couple times.

Oh fixed quoting. Nice
Anyway, Ernie Sims knocked out our own players in traing camp and then didn't put a hit on anyone except Chris Johnson week 8 (fined for it btw)
Took really bad angles.
However your right he was a really nice guy.

Yeah I missed that one to. With Quintin Mikell probably leaving for free agency, we'll need a new strong safety. Free safety will be fine with Nate Allen once he returns from injury

Seahawks

In no particular order:

Interior Offensive Line

A Tall Fast Playmaking WR (MW is great but he's not very fast)

A Good CB

A QB that can replace Hasselbeck in the near future

A True FB like when we used to have Mack Strong or even Leonard Weaver. I'd like to get the guy from USC in the fourth round.

Another pass rusher to go on the opposite side of Clemons. Red Bryant is a beast in the run game but at 300+ pounds the guy cant get off the line fast enough to provide a solid pass rush like Clemons can.

A DT if Mebane leaves

I honestly think you need another RB, a small, quick guy that can come in and catch passes and get big yardage when needed. I dont think Marshawn is the long term answers. (waits for post vid of Marshawn run vs Saints)

We still have Justin Forsett. He's small, quick, can make guys miss and is great at catching Smile

The NFL has turned into a RB by commitee league and thankfully we have a powerful, punch you in the nose RB in Lynch and a quick, small RB in Forsett that can catch out of the backfield.

Plus we had a couple plays that involved Dion Butler or Ben Obomanu taking WR hand offs last year which were fairly successful...

Redskins:

well..the question should be "what aren't the team's needs"

the primary needs are wide receiver and one more pass rusher..then perhaps a QB somewhere down the line..I'm hoping for either Julio Jones or Von Miller..I know Jones may not be amazing but at least he's another body.

Id be surprised if you didnt draft a QB in the first 2 rounds, or trade for Kolb/Palmer at some point

49ers:

1) Steady coaching staff - Just look at Alex Smith's career and you'll see what I mean

2) QB - Same reason as the first

3) Pass rushing LB - I think our coverage is okay but the problem in our pass defense is that the QB has way too long to throw. It could have been because of our former DC's non-blitzing 3-4 scheme. I wonder if we already have a legit pass rusher on the team who's skill isn't being tapped into.

4) Cornerback/Saftey - Taylor Mays isn't ready yet. No awareness = no 4.2 speed on the field. Nate Clements is okay but you don't need just "okay" as your shutdown #1 CB. Patrick Peterson please fall to us. Prince Amakumara wouldn't be too bad neither moving Nate to safety.

+1. I think we need Clements to move into a Ronde Barber type role. I think he would be perfect for it.

Ponder in the 2nd or Dalton in the 3rd. We don't need a QB that can scramble, we need one that can read and throw. JH will develop them to do the rest. Mallet would be a perfect fit if not for his character issues.

Cardinals need strenthening at almost every position except Safety and DLine.

1. We need a veteran QB. No rookies.
2. We need a pass-rushing LBer.
3. We need to fix the OLine that gave up 50 sacks (2nd most in NFL)
4. We need another CB to either replace or light a fire up DRC's ass. Guy has potential but he's lazy and isn't showing it.
5. We may need another WR if Breaston isn'r resigned. Some one good enough to pull coverage off Fitz. Like Ochochinco.
6. We might need another RB to share carries with Beanie if Hightower isn't resigned.
7. We need to use our TE's more. And then get a decent E - someome like Miller or Spaeth (Spaeth is probably the better option cos he's a Steeler, we all know how much Whisenhunt loves him some Steeler players - half our team is made up of them!

Giants

1) Linebacker - any linebacker. any position. just someone good please in the 1st or 2nd round.

2) O-line - our o-line is getting old. We need to invest in a couple of young interior o-linemen (LG,C - Snee is a monster at RG and will be for the next 40 years). A nice LT wouldn't hurt us either.

3) Defensive Tackle - if Cofield leaves via free agency we'll have Canty and 2nd round pick Linval Joseph starting. Canty was solid last year, but I'm not sure we're ready to launch Joseph into the starting role. I'd give him one more season with him getting playing time in a 3 DT rotation consisting of Cofield-Canty-Joseph (providing Cofield stays). Giants should look for a DT in the earlier rounds again (2-3).

4) Runningback - Providing we give Bradshaw a nice contract this offseason (idk if it's offseason or whatever), we'll have two runningbacks with $20+ million dollar contracts. One of them will be leaving next season most likely, and it'd be nice to have a pass-catching runningback to spell the starter.
