Hanson Retires :(
Jason Hanson announced his retirement today. Which, for me is pretty sad. I mean, he's been the kicker of the Lions since I was 1 year old. The guy seemed automatic. For me, I always felt when we were inside the 35 we were getting 3 points out of the drive.
495 field goals made
Record for most games played with one team, 327
Most Field Goals from 50+ yards (51)
Man, this is gonna be a weird season for the Lions. No Backus, no Hanson. Damn.
Hanson, you are a true class act, the fact that you remained with the Lions for 20+ seasons is amazing. You will be missed at Ford Field. We will miss your signature stance before kicking a field goal as well. But enjoy your retirement with your kids, we will see you when we put your name up in the Lions version of the Ring of Honor!

MADBROYOLO!!!!!
Maybe his mom stole another one of his dogs?
Re: Hanson Retires :(
Gotta give props to Hansen. Dude came from my hometown and made it in the NFL (no easy task even as a kicker).
I think he still has a house here in Spokane. It'll be weird not seeing Hansen on the Lions roster.

Re: Hanson Retires :(
KICKLICIOUS!!!
I don't know, I think it's kind of cool, I think I would prefer him over Akers (if he can kick that is)
But me, I want a young kicker (like the one from FSU) to come in and kick for the next 20 years like Eddie Murray and Jason Hanson did. I like the continuity at kicker.
Re: Hanson Retires :(
well it is nice, i think teams go through kickers like sick kids go through tissues. he missed a kick, release him and sign the next guy up. but the guy they just released goes to the next team and wins a damn ring for 3 weeks of work.
if you draft a kicker, you stick with him for as long as possible because it saves face with everyone else. you have a kicker for 10 years, the team knows him, fans know him, coaches know him, and people have something thats there in a league where most players leave and come back all over the place.

Thats why I'm glad the ravens did that with Justin Tucker, and they didn't even have to waste a draft pick on him, he was undrafted. After all those years with stover, then going to haushka (sp?), then "shank"-if, its nice to have a solid kicker finally. He may not be stover yet, but hes better than "shank"-if...
