First Ballot Hall of Famer. Believe it or not I think he was underrated his entire career. I mean think about it, how often was he on someone's list as the best safety in the league? From 02-05 there were guys like John Lynch and even Adrian Wilson always ahead on most people's lists. From 05 on it was always Ed Reed and Troy Polomalu they're great players but Dawkins was always at least good enough to be in the same class as them.
Great player overall, great person overall, great leader. If he's not first ballot then I dont know if we should even have a hall of fame. He could still play today at a slightly above-average level. Dawkins is a part of a dying breed of hard-hitting safeties. Watch out because soon they'll be all gone. Theyre dying from a combination of rules changes and the fact that people are all pussies now
