So earlier on NFL N they had a replay of a Lions-Bengals game from 1998, I turned it on at halftime and watched it on and off before the Wings game started.

I guess this question is for the elder guys on here like Puppetz, Rsox and Capt

Was Scott Mitchell that terrible all the time? My God. I would have done physical harm to someone if I had to watch him all the time. He threw an INT with 30 seconds left in the game at his own 25 in a tie game and throws a pick 6 in overtime to lose. How do you lose a game twice in 2 plays?

Watching Barry was pretty cool to see.

One of the commentators was Gus Johnson. lol I thought that was kind of cool to.

And since it was when the Lions were still playing at the Silverdome, I had to find this clip:

Take that Tubbs, Silverdome was rarely sold out and we were louder than your architecturally designed loud stadium.

looks pretty mediocre. if we were going to put a madden rating on it, somewhere between a 69 to a 73 overall

Never looked at his stats.

It's funny because the game that was on today was his last game as a Lion.

Scott Mitchell was "great" for 1 season in Detroit, i think it was 1994 or 1995, the guy put up over 4,000 yards and looked impressive in doing so, I remember him when he was in Miami and had to step in for the injured Dan Marino a couple times and he didnt look "bad', sorta like a Matt Flynn type and after that the Lions snagged him i believe in Free Agency....not really sure what happened to him after his one good season, i know the Lions had Barry and a couple good WRs like Herman Moore,Johhny Morton and Bret Perriman..I think Mitchell just let the pressure of being a starter affect his game cause he was awful after that good season.

lol i distinctly remember that game!! it was the 1997 season finale and the Jets were 9-6, all they had to do was beat the Lions to get into the Playoffs..the Jets were winning this game 10-6 heading into the 4th qtr and then"all Barry" broke loose!! lol...Barry looked like he was dropped for a 5 yard loss but then somehow didnt go down and changed direction en route to a buetiful long ass TD lol..13-10 would be the final score..what pissed me off the most is that the Jets would put together some solid drives only to have them end in a fumble or INT lol..typical Jets loss right there Sad

Dude, that may be the thing I'm most jealous about. Ya'll got to watch Barry play. All I get are the highlights. Hell I was only 8 when he retired.

Plus football looked a lot better back in those days, I don't know why but watching games from the 90's is a lot better than watching games in the 2000's

todays games have soo much hype and expectations that its almost impossible not to "expect" something great to come out of them..for instance, IF Barry was running in todays NFL, he would be expected to get at least 100 yards rushing and if he didnt they would all be talking on ESPN about how Barry had a bad game cause he only got 98 yards on 14 carries..back then it seemed like the players just went out there and played, not much repurcussions by the media or sports channels..everyone knew Barry was great, but they didnt make a big deal about it

in that game, Barry was being held in check by the Jets until he popped that one big run..thats what was so great about this guy..best HB ever to put on a uniform for ANY team..

Around here nobody cared about DET. They only won 2 division titles in the 90s. Never considered to be anything more than a mediocre team. The only games most of the country saw was turkey day games. Other than that they only had Barry as a draw and that only for a short time (much too short) while the 90s where dominated (TV exposure wise) the 9ers and Dallas with the occasional lol @ BUF. Then Millen got hired and the rest is shit for another 8 yrs.

Not much parady in the league then. U were hot or u where out. Pats were in the same boat. A few teams had a handful of HOFers and every1 else barely had a 1 guy barely worthy of a pro bowl. That and out of market games were hard to find on TV with sports only channels barely emerging in the mid 90s.
